Siding and Reduce Energy Bills…"
Real wood log siding offers a rustic,
natural and beautiful appearance, with cedar log siding and cypress
log siding being among the most popular choices for homeowners
but can also be redwood or pine. Log siding is commonly referred
to as "half log construction" and is certainly cheaper
than using full-logs because it’s mass-produced. But that
doesn’t mean that it’s cheap. Log siding has a timeless
beauty and comes in many colors and textures.
It is used on the exterior of stick framed homes, cabins or commercial
construction but can also be used in your interior, adding a nice
quality to walls in addition to drywall and/or our tongue and
groove paneling. Log siding is installed in its original color,
without any painting. It comes in a variety of colors and textures,
and its energy efficiency enables homeowners to save on their
monthly utility bills. It is a good choice because it is durable
and strong and very unique.
Log siding is designed with tongue and
groove edges making installation easy while conserving raw materials
making it a zero-waste product and easy to use. It is properly
kiln dried to reduce moisture and minimize shrinkage and can be
bought in a variety of textures and colors, and it can be shaped,
stained or painted according to taste.
It is easy to install: chalk a level line for the bottom course;
each course simply laps over the one below. The siding is face-nailed
about one inch from the top and bottom at each stud, using 15
gague, 2 1/2" finish nails, galvanized or stainless steel.
It is aesthetically most suited to wooden landscapes.
Real log homes need to be cleaned at least twice a year, and
the process can be quite grueling. Trying to keep the logs from
rotting can be quite hard. The log siding
materials made of real wood are specially treated to prevent rot
and water damage, and they are also usually treated to fight termite
infestation.
